Opposing forced academisation

RB_Educ_Att_YK_180416_400.pngOn Monday 18th April I spoke in a debate on Education Attainment in Yorkshire.

I took the opportunity to raise my concerns about the Government's plans to force all schools to become academies.

I argued that there is no credible evidence base that suggests conversion to academy status improves pupil attainment and that difficulties that exist for local schoolchildren and families in Leeds is a result of Conservative cuts to local services.

I also took the opportunity to thank local teachers, including local NUT and NASUWT teaching union activists, for the work that they do.
